The Kitakaruizawa Music Seminar returns to the beautiful countryside of Japan this year! This intensive summer seminar is directed by Charles Neidich and Ayako Oshima, of the Juilliard School. Participants will thoroughly learn what it means to perform, diving into the basics of the clarinet to advanced techniques, the interpretation of major works, and the exploration of deeper expressive power. Since our beginning in 2005, we have had over 300 students from all over the world.
There is a powerful sound when guest professors and students from all over the world come together at the Weimar Academy of Music. They rehearse, fine-tune and practise together. And the audience is always there! Whether as a guest listener in class or as an audience member in concert. The Weimar Master Classes invite you to experience music in a variety of ways.

The first standard work for clarinet, viola, and piano, Mozart’s sunny “Kegelstatt” trio set the stage for later works by Schumann—his imaginative, emotive “Fairy Tales”—and Bruch, whose introspective pieces embody the Romantic idiom. Mamlok’s pointillistic Rhapsody and solemn Rückblick offer a rare glimpse of her voice and personal history.
Performers, all Naumburg winners, will include the American, Brentano, Emerson, Pacifica and Telegraph String Quartets; Eighth Blackbird; soprano Dawn Upshaw; clarinetist Charles Neidich and pianist Anton Nel. The renowned composer John Corigliano and Naumburg President Nicholas Mann will be giving remarks.
